My Five Favorite Locations in Prospect Park for Elopements By Impressenshi

Prospect Park is my favourite park in all of New York City. I lived by the park for 3 years and loved every second of it. I’d take walks in the park whenever I could, I'd have dinner in the park on Summer evenings and I’d just find a nice quiet spot to throw out a picnic blanket and read. Unlike Central Park, even when the park is running over with people, it doesn't feel like it. You always feel like you have space to yourself.

As a photographer, I love this park because it is such a great place to have an elopement and your wedding portraits taken. Most people who frequent the park usually live in the neightbourhood, are local to Brooklyn and have a great sense of community. So you will find that people will be more amiable to move out of your way if they notice that you are having photos taken..the park is quite large and there are a lot of places that are elopement and photo worthy.I am pleased to inform you that Prospect Park is beautiful in any season and all year round. Here are my five favourite locations..

Lullwater Bridge

This bridge is located near the Prospect Park Boathouse. It is built to cross one of the narrower areas of Prospect Park Lake, and has scalloped iron work in the middle of the bridge. It also has a great view of the Boathouse in the back which makes for iconic photos. While this location is great for photos, it has a lot of foot traffic. If you want to have the bridge as a ceremony location I would suggest early morning any day of the week and early mornings and afternoons on weekdays and suggest a party of 5 people and under.

Best entrance to this location is by the Ocean Avenue and Lincoln Road entrance. Street parking is available and a little hard to find, so make sure you arrive earlier to find a spot or you can take the Q train to the Prospect Park Station and walk from there.

The Rustic Arbor

This is under a five minute walk from Lullwater Bridge and made from logs. Its a great spot for a ceremony for about 20 people and you have a choice of a water view or not, depending on your preference.

Chaim Baier Music Island

This island is located right off LeFrak Centre and has tall trees and lakeside views . It is great for both ceremony and photos. In the Spring and Summer time you’ll feel like you're surrounded by a cloud of green. In the Autumn/Fall you will have a lot of colour during peak days. Once the ceremony is over you will have a lot of charming locations to have photos taken all within a short walking distance. You’ll find a lot of open spaces, a pavilion, an underpass and Lullwater Bridge just a little farther away.

There are two entrances to reach this location. The first is by Ocean Avenue and Lincoln Road and the second is by Ocean Avenue and Parkside Avenue. Street parking is available and a little hard to find, so make sure you arrive earlier to find a spot or you can take the Q train to the Prospect Park Station for the Lincoln Road entrance or the Q train to Parkside Avenue for the Parkside entrance.

Wellhouse Drive Bridge Underpass

This location is a bit of a hike and sorta off the beaten path. However, it is a really quiet spot for a ceremony. This can be a rainy day back up spot and if you happen to be there during sunset when the sun hits the water just right, you’ll get dancing reflections of the sun’s rays on the underpass adding a little magic to your experience and photos.

Narnia Tree

This location’s name is totally made up by a colleague and I and needless to say there is some great love for C.S Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. This location is also the hardest to find if you don't have someone who knows their way around the park. The Narnia Tree is a shady tree and is hidden making it a great place to have an intimate elopement.

I hope you have enjoyed this short tour of my favourite places in Prospect Park. There are many more locations in this beautiful park and a few more are highlighted in my colleague’s article which you can read here
