May 8th, 2020 marks the first time that couples in the State of New York are able to virtually procure a marriage license. Since The New York City Marriage Bureau has been closed since March 20th, 2020 because of Covid-19 and it’s been impossible for couples to procure a marriage license. However, now with Project Cupid, couples can now get get their marriage license virtually.

You will need to use/download Microsoft Edge to fill out the application form on the Project Cupid Website. You pay the $35 fee, then set up a virtual appointment with a clerk who will to verify your identities and electronically sends you your license. The license is valid for 60 days. Please note that this is not a wedding ceremony and you must be physically together for your appointment. Step by step information is available on the website and are easy to follow.

You can have a virtual ceremony with an Officiant over Zoom or any choice of video conferencing you like. For now, it is still illegal to have an in person officiant or photographer at your ceremony. This will possibly change after May 15th, 2020, where depending on what the changes are for PAUSE, you may be allow to have a socially distanced wedding ceremony. This still all up in the air as we wait for future updates as to the current state of Covid-19 and how much we have flattened the curve, but until then, the couple must be together for the ceremony. The officiant and witness can be there in person or virtually. Also, all four of you must be in the State of New York at the time of the wedding ceremony.

For more information and continued updates, please visit the Project Cupid website. They have a FAQs section at the bottom of the homepage.
